Know the format and the fee
Cash games and tournaments use different structures. In a cash game, check the blinds and rake; in a tournament, separate the prize-pool contribution from the entry fee and understand re-entry rules.
Poker includes decisions against other players, but skill does not remove uncertainty or financial risk. Set a total session budget and do not move to higher stakes to recover losses.
Before you decide
Record the currency, fees, identity checks and withdrawal steps. A deposit method and a withdrawal method may work differently.
